The Red Numbers Project / Dreamsummer

The Red Numbers Project is a collective of composers and instrumentalists based across Scotland. Through adopting a band-style practice, with a focus on player autonomy and improvisation, they seek new malleable approaches to collaborative composition.

Their collective sound, reflective of the artistic voices of each member, is a striking blend of musical genre elements and influences. The result is an exciting fusion of contemporary classical, post-rock, minimalism and progressive metal.

Melding club stylings of techno, drum and bass and synthpop with experimental electroacoustic techniques and open-score improvisation, Riley Mackenzie’s new long-form composition Dreamsummer opens a door into a world of strange and psychedelic electronic dance music. Sometimes dreamlike and ethereal, other times visceral and pounding, the piece imagines a new avenue of live electronic performance whilst inviting the listeners to step outside their body and into the sound.
